Overview
In the final project of the UX.UI design course we were asked to solve a problem using a digital product. I chose a problem that many, like myself, have been dealing with- signing up to a gym but leaving before the goals have been achieved.
Problem
Many people sign up for gyms in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle or to improve their physical appearance, though many of them lose their motivation, give up their goals and stop exercising.
Solution
A mobile app that helps users plan their training routine, document their performance and track their achievements at the gym.
KPI's
- X users complete their first workout plan.
- X users upgrade to a paid subscription
Online Survey
To better understand why people stop working out in the gym, I wrote a survey and distributed it in the Facebook group “Ask Fitness Trainers”
37 participants answered the survey and these are the most interesting insights I found:

51% of participants often stop workout in the middle

69% of participants stop workout in the middle mainly due to lack of motivation.

54% of participants record their achievements in a notes app
User Interview
I interviewed 3 participants who answered the survey to hear in their own words what problems and challenges they encounter on the way to achieving their fitness goal
Can you tell me about your current workout routine and how you plan it?
“Currently, I don't have a consistent workout routine. I often find myself making excuses not to go to the gym and end up skipping workouts. I try to plan my routine by setting specific days and times for each workout, but I find it hard to stick to it."
“I try to plan my workout routine by going to the gym a few times a week, but I often find that I lack motivation to follow through with it. I make excuses not to go and end up skipping workouts. I would like to find a way to hold myself accountable and stay motivated."
“I currently use a workout plan provided by personal trainer to plan my routine. I try to stick to it as much as possible, but I often find that I lack motivation to follow through with it.”
How do you stay motivated and hold yourself accountable for your fitness goals?
"I stay motivated by tracking my progress and seeing the positive changes in my body and overall health."
"I stay motivated by reminding myself of the benefits of staying fit and healthy, and the negative consequences of not staying active."
"I stay motivated by visualizing my progress, I create a vision board with pictures of my goals, I look at it every day to remind myself of what I'm working towards."
How do you currently track your fitness progress and achievements?
“"I currently track my fitness progress by taking measurements of my body, such as weight and body fat percentage”
“I currently track my fitness progress by keeping a journal of my workouts, noting the exercises, sets, reps, and weights I use. I also take progress photos to see physical changes over time.”

Conclusions
As my first UX project, what interested me the most was hearing from people about their gym challenges, mapping their journey alongside their needs and frustrations, and delivering what I thought would be the perfect solution for them.
I really hope I succeeded, I’d love to hear your opinion 🙂
Next Steps
